Have your say on Community Benefits at Kinnelhead Wind Farm

Please share your ideas for local benefits and priority projects that you would like to see supported or delivered in your community, if the proposed Kinnelhead Wind Farm receives planning consent. Your suggestions will help us create a tailored benefits package that truly reflects local needs and aspirations.

We believe that onshore wind projects should provide direct, lasting benefits to local communities and there are a number of ways that this can be achieved.

Some broad examples from communities that we've worked with before include;

    • improvements to community facilities such as village halls
    • broadband improvements,
    • funding for local community groups
    • specific education development funds to support further education costs for local students.

We appreciate the time taken to share your ideas. We will use this feedback to provide an update at the next Public Exhibition planned for later this year.

The tailored community benefit package could also include RES' unique Local Electricity Discount Scheme (LEDS), which offers an annual discount to the electricity bills of those properties closest to a participating wind farm.

Local Electricity Discount Scheme (LEDS)

RES could deliver its unique Local Electricity Discount Scheme (LEDS) should the community want this to form part of a tailored package of benefits.

LEDS provides an annual discount on electricity bills for properties with an electricity meter closest to an operational wind farm (including residential properties, community buildings, places of worship, and businesses). This will be paid directly to the energy company and/or provided in vouchers for pay-as-you-go electricity users.

Is this something you believe should be included within the community benefit package if Kinnelhead Wind Farm is consented and built?

Community Shared Ownership

RES is also interested to understand whether there is any appetite from community groups in exploring the potential opportunity of shared ownership in the wind farm. We are actively looking into what might be possible however if you are aware of an existing community group which might be willing, and in a position to make an investment in a commercially owned renewable energy project, please include details below. Local Energy Scotland is the independent body that manages the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES).
